Western Wall Plaza Roofing

Western Wall Plaza Roofing

The project aims to preserve the functionality of the Western Wall Plaza while allowing for archaeological excavations beneath it. Upon completion, two levels will be created: the upper level designated for prayer and the lower level revealing archaeological layers from the First and Second Temple periods.

The work includes pile drilling, careful archaeological excavations, and casting a concrete floor that will serve as the ceiling for the lower level.

As part of the ongoing archaeological excavations at the site, an ancient vaulted hall has been uncovered beneath the Ohel Yitzhak Synagogue, previously buried under soil and filled with artifacts from various historical periods.

The preservation process includes structural reinforcement by installing a steel truss on small-diameter piles while conducting excavations in parallel. The vaults are reinforced using anchors and steel structures to ensure the preservation of both the vaults and the historic building.

Following its restoration, the hall has been transformed into a multi-purpose space used for educational sessions, guided tours, and events while maintaining the site's archaeological and historical significance.
